headshot1It is axiomatic that to be a Muslim you must: believe in Allah by taking him as your one and only lord, accept Muhammad as Allah’s beloved messenger and take the Quran as a literal work of Allah and a perfect prescription for living.

Hard as I tried, I had a terrible time being a Muslim right at the entry level. I, therefore, decided to write this open letter in the hope of receiving some satisfactory answers to the many questions that trouble me greatly.

From the first breath of life to the last pang of death, Islam relentlessly bombards us: surrender yourself fully to Allah, pray for his help, let him make all decisions for you and run your life, don’t ever question anything, since questioning is the whisperings of the accursed Satan who strives to take you astray.

Islam says that Allah is the javaab-ul-doaa (answerer of supplications/prayers) and that to him we should supplicate for any and all help in all matters.

Well, I am doing exactly as I am advised. I am supplicating Allah in the form of this open letter, to provide me with answers to some of my numerous and troubling questions.

photo_2jpgIt must be a peculiarity about me. I am loath to surrender my inquiry about things and allow others, divine or not, to do the thinking for me. If I am to let Allah do all the thinking and deciding for me, then why am I given my own brain? I have challenged the Islamic divines.

See, I have already failed the test since I have not surrendered fully to Allah and, by questioning, did not place my total faith in him.

I have been spending much of my life trying to get some satisfactory answers to my questions about Islam from Islamic scripture and authorities without success. More often than not, I get conflicting answers, confusing responses and even outright contradictory statements.

Hence, I decided to pose some of my perplexing questions in this open letter directly to the god of Islam, Allah, earnestly hoping deliverance from the anguish of doubt.

I will do my very best to conduct myself with decorum and courtesy toward Allah. At no time will I behave rudely toward him, just in case he is indeed the sole author of this awesome universe, as Islam claims. To be discourteous and rude is not my habit. I don’t even behave rudely toward anyone, much less so in dealing with a purported unfathomably magnificent being.

The list of my questions is long indeed. Here are some of my questions, not necessarily in order of importance, presented in all meekness to Allah, the Lord of Islam. To me, all questions are important and assigning relative importance to them is arbitrary. So, I get started.

I have no illusions of grandeur and no pretense at knowing very much. I am a sincere seeker after truth and it is in this spirit that I am humbly composing this missive to you, Allah. I hope that I am not being discourteous by simply addressing you as Allah. I mean without preceding invocation of your name by honorifics.

I fully realize that I really am most insignificant in the grand scheme of things. But, again, you have created me so I must be worth something. It is this realization that gives me the courage to address you with my questions, your lordship.

Without further ado, here are some of my questions.

* Islam says that you are the uncreated creator. I have a very hard time with that claim. Of course I am a most finite being and my intellect is hardly capable of imagining that something comes from nothing. There is that old refrain, “nothing comes from nothing, nothing ever could” that humans take as an article of faith and fact. But, again, we humans are hardly capable of fathoming things that transcend the limits of our finite rational mind. Any clarification of this assertion would be immensely helpful.

* Speaking of creating, Islam says that you created the universe by the command: kon va yakoon (become and became). The universe appeared instantly in obedience to your command. There are different views about this whole topic of creation that I don’t want to trouble you about. For now, my simple question is: Lord, by this simple command of kon va yakoon, you brought about this indescribably magnificent universe, yet you took some twenty years to write your smallish book, the Quran. Why did it take you so long to write it? I fear a thunderbolt might strike me dead for posing this intrusive question. I hope you hold off and allow me to continue.

photo3So, I think maybe I can supply a rationalization, not a plausible reason, for it. I said to myself, your lordship, perhaps it took you twenty years because Muhammad was illiterate and slow in getting your dictates and taking them to a scribe to jot them down. That’s why. Yet, finding someone who could actually write things down among the horde of savages was not an easy task.

A follow up question! Why a supremely august being, as you are, with all the indescribably exulted powers and attributes, chose an illiterate Arab, a hired-hand of a rich widow, as your messenger is a mystery. Couldn’t you have chosen a Rabbi from nearby Medina, a Zoroastrian Mobed, a Christian Priest from Mecca itself, a Hindu Monk, a Buddhist Clergy? These were people who had specialized in matters of religion, rather than an Arab whose only skill was helping drive caravans of camels.

I have seen Islam’s pat answers to all questions: to no one is given the right to ask Allah about his doings, he does what pleases him and ordains what he wants. But this is no answer. It is a copout.

*Are you male, your lordship? Pardon me for asking a personal question. The reason I ask is that you have much against women. You stipulate that women are worth one-half of men. You ordain that men are rulers over women and much more. I really don’t see that. My lifelong experiences with women have convinced me that women are every bit as worthy as men, if not even better in many respects. For one, women are the life-givers and nurturers of life. Men, by contrast, are forever in the business of life-taking.

Science tells us that women are as capable as men in every sphere other than those that require brute force. But, machines are much more superior to men in brute force and women can and do operate those machines as well as men.

Is there something inherently inferior or evil about women? If so, then, pardon me, your lordship. It is you who designed them that way. Didn’t you?

Is it not a fact that the savage chauvinist Arabs of Muhammad’s time are the ones who instituted this oppressive scheme against women and Muhammad stamped his approval of the fraud in your name?

*My next question is about the role of religion. My limited understanding is that the major function of religion is to bring disparate people together. That is, bring unity and amity among the diverse and quarreling human groups. Islam fails miserably on this major point. While Muhammad was alive, he kept preaching the gospel of divisiveness. He taught a gospel of us against them, believers against the unbeliever. Since his death, Muhammad’s followers have doggedly followed his gospel of divisiveness.

photo_4How can fueling the fire of polarization bring about the peace of unity after what Muhammad did and his disciples continue to do, killing the unbelievers en mass and without the least bit of mercy?

Compounding the problem is the fact that as Muhammad was still gasping his last breath, his senior disciples were busying themselves with the business of killing one another in their lust for power and leadership. And Islam has been on a mission with the internecine as well as infidel killing ever since.

Whether or not I receive answers to these questions, I will persist in posing more of them in the future. Who knows? As unlikely as it may seem, Allah may indeed deem it appropriate to send another of his archangels with a Quran addressing these and other troubling questions.  Keep in mind that he does what pleases him and ordains what he wants.

Dear Joy,

I wish everyone who hears something would go and check its authenticity in the very source where it supposed to belong or coming from. To answer your point 3.a, yes, Muslims believe in the return of Jesus and He will join the awaited Mahdi of Islam in the fight against oppression & injustice in planet earth.
Jesus will return to complete his mission because in His time, He wasn't given the status of Prophets like David, Solomon, Moses and Mohamed to establish and govern a state with all its infrastructure and components. Based on this, how can he be superior to any of these Prophets or you just make Him so because you happen to believe in Him as a son of God or god personified?
Point:3.b, I am not sure where you got it from. You must have picked it up from the Talmud which is the book of the Jews but I challenge you to come up with a proof on this from the Quran or from a genuine book of Narrations from Prophet Mohamed.
According to you a law always condemns but a gospel always forgives. I am not sure where you dug out this from but here are some fresh out of the gospel for you if you want to learn something new about your faith.

I am not sure why you always stereotype Muslims as monsters, killers, wife beaters, war mongers and so on. Did you come back from Syria with an organ or part of your head missing by any chance?
If we speak your language, we will consider all Americans and Europeans as war monger, blood thirsty criminals, invaders & colonisers, racists and the list continues to no end. Who was behind European wars in the middle ages in Europe? The Muslims or your people?
Who was killing Christian Unitarians & Nazarethians from 325AD to 19th century for believing that Jesus was a Prophet and not the son of God or God incarnate? Was it the Muslims or the so called followers of Jesus?
Who went to America and killed hundreds of thousand Indians to proclaim a land that wasn't theirs? Was it the Muslims or the good peace loving Gospel readers?
Who started WWI & WWII, was it the Muslims or the God fearing and loving Christians? Who killed millions of Vietnamese, Chinese, Cambodians, Iranians, Iraqis, South Americans, Africans in the last 50 years until today? Was that the Muslims or was it your peoples?
The list continues for ever and ever. This is how we would speak if we were to be stereotyping Europeans and Americans. Our religion forbids us to do that despite the fact that Muslim Salafis & Wahabis consider you all infidels and denizen of hell, including us majority Muslims but most Western governments chose to finance and arm them using your tax money to destroy Syria and at the same time burn churches, slaughter Christian & Muslim women and children just because they happen to be believing in something different to them. Despite all this you are still fooled and blinded by statemen like Bush, Obama and the rest of the political clique.
Jesus will deny you all on the day of Judgement because that is not what He preached in his original Gospel. You all should be ashamed of yourselves for accepting these war mongers as your leaders and still claim to be Christians.
I can only say "May God show you the right path like those Unitarians & Nazarethians who died for being real Christians centuries ago, Amen".
correction: '.....life of celibacy like NUNS'.
Well my comment is not only for the writer or any particular person who had commented on this post... rather it is a random evaluation of everything mentioned above.... no doubt being a Muslim i too had many queries which are unanswered so far...as most of them have been mentioned in this 'Open letter' but i have observed a biased opinion of people on this board..

as far as the character of Muhammad (PBUH) is concerned the above mentioned comments are totally work of ignorance on a particular subject and the Quran as well...

i would like to point out few questions mentioned in this post

first of all the rights of women...

PROPERTY SHARE:
women have right in the property share of her husband as well as father... she can claim on the both sides for her right on property.. moreover you can buy a property on her name which totally belongs to her.... or a will can do the works.... on contrary we have seen that till 17th century and even after that women were deprived of property rights in the developed countries like the GREAT BRITAIN a christian country.... the property was entitled to a male subject in near or even far off relations... we can find lot of examples in the literary works of great writers.... moreover women in Islam are not bound to support their family the duty lies totally with man to fulfill their needs... even a wife can ask her husband to pay her if she feeds her own child...

TESTIMONY :
No doubt testimony of two females is equal to one male but that is due to their emotional and rather sensitive nature .... but Christianity is no different as it believed on the testimony of JESUS CHRIST (a.s) not on the testimony of Mother MARY..... The infant Christ gave the testimony of his mother's chastity and people accepted it... Moreover we all Muslims.. Christians or Jews follow the words of Muhammad (PBUH)... Jesus ans Mosses respectively... i think its stupid to explain that these All are MEN... so in this respect we all are same no different....

FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND RIGHT OF EDUCATION:
Islam supported female education as equal to men... as Prophet (PBUH) said:
"Its a duty of every muslim men and women to seek knowledge".
on contrary women had no right of education and freedom of speech in the developed western word as we can find lot of examples of female writers who wrote under pseudonym e.g Mary Anne Evans known as George Eliot ... and this probably i am not talking about the era of Christ..

MEN CAN MARRY FOUR WOMEN AT A TIME:
yes he can but it is not for any physical satisfaction ... it has been allowed to accommodate women who are larger in quantity then men... to refrain them from committing sin... to protect them economically ...provide them shelter so they are not forced into a life of solidarity like NUNS... moreover all wives have equal rights on their husband so its a heavy duty on a male...

Islam intrigues violence and bloodshed:

islam never promoted violence nor the teachings of Muhammad (PBUH).... the concept of jihad means to fight back your enemies so they do not take u as cowards.. it further promulgates to protect your rights... but unfortunately this could not have been implemented in the later generations of muslims.... specially in present era...

RELATIONS WITH NON MUSLIMS:
Prophet (PBUH) never supported the idea to humiliate non-Muslims e.g BADR WAR .... he asked his sahaba to treat war prisoners well and asked the non muslims prisoners of war to teach muslim kids how to read and write... and
after that they were set free...

character assassination of a Prophet should be strongly condemned because of the acts of his followers... i gave examples from social history to answer back because i think its wrong to stand up and blame a Messenger of GOD without proper knowledge moreover being a Muslim we had an equal faith in Jesus Christ and Mosses .. Abraham and every messenger of GOD... this is what our religion taught us...

there are some fundamental concepts which are same in every religion my point is not to blame the religion because of our own deeds....
1. I am a Christian
2. I know very little about Islam
3. What I do know or have heard:
a. Jesus will return to the Jesus Christ minaret in Damascus, Syria (this is what I was told when I was there)---if so, then, as the last prophet, Jesus would be greater than Mohammed.
b. It is allowed to lie to infidels.---if so then how can anyone other than a Muslim ever trust another Muslim?

Christians also believe that God created the heavens and the earth from nothing. We also believe that God wrote His Holy words for us in the Bible and took several thousand years to write it all via Holy Spirit inspired shepherds and others of various stages of education and intellect and faithfulness. While someone quoted above that God does not change, some think that He must as there are scriptures which seem to contradict the definition of God is Love including verses that call for violence again those who hate Him or His people. And of course there still seems to be some debate regarding the role of women as "equals."

My understanding of all of this is that God is greater of course than our finite understanding. He gave us what we could digest in His word and informed us in it that if everything about Him were written down the world would not be able to contain all the books. Jesus, God come in the flesh, is the center of the Bible and everything in the Bible was to prepare and point to Him.. The 2 great teachings through out the Bible are: Law and Gospel (I found it odd that you used the word, gospel, a peculiarly Christian term, in your letter to Allah.) The law ALWAYS condemns and gospel ALWAYS forgives. There is law and gospel in both Old and New Testaments although to some extent one can say that the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.
So, I ask you, what do YOU believe? Whom will you serve? How will you find forgiveness? And have you endangered your soul for the sake of the freedom to ask questions? And have you endangered your life by "mocking" Allah such that there is now a "hit" out on you by some zealous Islamists? I applaud your bravery and thank you for sharing this insight. I am praying for you too.
I believe that Islam is a false religion perpetrated by the Devil. My reasons are these:
*The Angel Gabriel is God's assassin - it was he who slew the first born if Egypt.
*Jesus - called the Son of God - comes later to teach us about God's love and mercy, and to offer his own blood for our salvation.
*Since the work of the Devil was negated by Jesus, the Devil has to transform himself into Satan and begin using trickery to separate us from God.
*600 years or so later Mohammed starts getting visits from 'an angel' who claims to be Gabriel, and establishes a cruel and harsh religion based on the 'teachings' of this 'angel'. It particularly says to kill followers of Jesus and of Abraham.
*What possible reason could our creator have - after sending his own son as a prophet and sacrifice - to later send a mindless angel who was formerly used as a killer? And angels were 'mindless', created to only sing the praises of The Lord and do his bidding. If we were not superior, why create us AFTER angels?
*So I believe that the 'Gabriel' who appeared to Mohammed was Satan in disguise, and he had to pick an ignorant pagan camel-driver because no one exposed to the religion of Abraham nor to the teachings of Jesus Christ would have believed this 'Gabriel'.

Result - religion of the Devil, created to distract people from the real God and to threaten and kill us all if they can.
Dear Amil

Muhammad was a pedophile and had sexual relations with the 9 year old Aishe, he was 52 at the time. ISLAM is the work of Satan. What kind of a merciful GOD would such garbage in the Koran. You cannot reason with Satan.

*There is no separation between Church and State. (Koran chapter 2, verse 193)
* Fighting is prescribed for Muslims. (Koran, chapter 2, verse 216)
* Wives are a field to be used by their husbands as they desire. (Koran, chapter 2, verse 223)
* Men are superior to women. (Koran, chapter 2, verse 228)
* Women have half the rights of men in court as a witness. (Koran, chapter 2, verse 282)
* A man may marry up to four wives at the same time. (Koran chapter 4, verse 3)
* Women have half the rights of men in inheritance rights. (Koran chapter 4, verse 11)
* A man may beat his wife. (Koran chapter 4, verse 34)
* No opposition parties are allowed. (Koran chapter 4, verse 59)
* Stealing is punished by the amputation of the hands. (Koran chapter 5, verse 38)

All are good points. Also, the God of Abraham gave the same message to numerous prophets descended from Abraham in the Old Testament and then a message of love and forgiveness through his Son Jesus Christ in the Gospels. Then this allah comes along and gives a message of hate and killing unbelievers to those who believe in Muhammad, totally contrary to Jesus Christ’s teachings. Muslims claim that Islam is an Abrahamic religion because of Ishmael. Between the time of Abraham and Ishmael to Muhammad, there is a time of 2600 years and there is NO linking genealogy from Ishmael to the Arabs like the Bible has from Abraham to David and then to Jesus. It is possible that Ishmael’s ancestors wandered down to the Arabian Peninsula but they worshipped all kinds of gods at the Kaaba during those 2600 years. Allah the moon god was one of them I’ve read. The requirement in Islam to recognize Muhammad as the final prophet seems to supersede belief in allah. Christians and Jews believe in the God of Abraham. Muhammad supposedly via allah says that’s no good; you have to believe in Muhammad as the final prophet. The Quran, allah’s revelation supposedly, says that Jesus is not the Son of God and that Jesus did not die on the cross; both lies against the Gospels written 700 years before the Quran. Jesus said that Satan is the father of all lies. I conclude allah is Satan. One more point…Muhammad had to downgrade Jesus to prophet status…Muhammad could not follow the Son of God and claim to be the final prophet, could he?
The Glorious, Magnificent, Wonderful God of the Bible, our Precious, Awesome Creator is the complete OPPOSITE of the Muslim god of MURDER! The Beautiful Bible Jesus is the exact opposite of the horrifying Muslim Jesus!

Bible, Matthew 7:12 (Jesus) Treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

The Golden Rule, treating people the same way we want to be treated has ALWAYS been the Law and ALWAYS been the message of ALL the Prophets!

Bible, Matthew 5 (Jesus) Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are the merciful for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God.

Mohammadans call for the MASSIVE breaking of God’s Holy Laws!

The Quran is filled with commands to Muslims to commit atrocities, barbaric murders and jihad against non-Muslims. The commands are permanent for all time.

Qur’an:8:12 “I shall terrorize the infidels. So wound their bodies and incapacitate
them because they oppose Allah and His Apostle.”

Quran (3:151) – “Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers

Quran (3:56) – “As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help.”

Great stuff. Mr. Imani. Here is what I read about this Allah: "According to the Quran Allah reveals a verse only to have it canceled out a short time later:

None of Our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten but We substitute something better or similar- Knowest thou not that Allah has power over all things? S. 2:106

When We substitute one revelation for another- and Allah knowest best what He reveals (in stages)- They say, "Thou art but a forger"; But most of them understand not. S. 16:101

This leaves us with the difficulty of having a God who does not remain consistent and often changes his revealed purpose. This being the case, how is one to know that the promises of such a Being in regard to eternal security can be trusted? Just as he changes his mind in relation to the revelation, he can also decide to change his mind in regard to the believer's ultimate destiny without anything stopping him from doing so.

This is different from Yahweh of the Holy Bible who does not change and as such can be totally trusted in fulfilling all his promises:

God is not a man that he should lie, nor a son of man that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it good? Numbers 23:19

For I, Yahweh, do not change. Malachi 3:6

If we are faithless, he remains faithful; he cannot deny himself. 2 Timothy 2:13

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8

Because the God of the Bible is immutable he can promise, "Heaven and earth will pass away but my words will never pass away" (Matthew 24:35).
