On April 4th of this year I posted an article on this blog called Impeachable Offenses. In that article I listed 12 things that President Obama had done that I felt were violations of his oath of office. Like many Americans, I have been appalled by the apparent disregard and even disdain that Obama, and many of his appointees and supporters in Congress have for the Constitution of the United States.

However, even I was not prepared for his latest action that is not only a violation of his oath of office, but a direct violation of one of the most important parts of the Constitution. The language in Article 2, Section 3 of the Constitution is very specific when it talks about the duties of the President of the United States and it says: “…. he shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed…”

Article 1 of the Constitution establishes the Congress of United States and gives it the sole power to make laws. Article 2 does not give the president the power to make laws or to ignore them once they're passed by Congress. It specifically states that the President has to execute those laws unless they are struck down by the Supreme Court, or repealed by Congress. Obama has decided that the Constitution is meaningless and that he is the sole authority over what laws will be enforced and what laws will be ignored.

I'm referring to the announcement by Obama just before he left on his vacation to Martha's Vineyard that he is ordering the Justice Department and ICE to not deport thousands of people that have broken our country's laws by entering our nation illegally. In effect, Obama has acted alone to enact the so-called “Dream Act” that Congress has refused to pass and that the American people overwhelmingly oppose. He has, on his own granted amnesty to many illegal aliens.

The oath of office taken by the president is also enshrined in Article 2 of the Constitution. It states: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Instead of complying with this oath, the president has violated not only the oath but the very directive given to him by the Constitution. This blatant disregard for the basic tenants of our form of government makes it clear that Obama regards himself as much more than just a president elected by the people in the Republic.

It now appears that he believes that he can ignore the Congress, ignore the judiciary, and most importantly ignore the will of the American people. Under federal law, the violation of the oath of office taken by any federal officeholder is a crime, and can be punished by fine and/or imprisonment. By refusing to live up to his oath and further abide by the Constitution that establishes the office that he holds, Obama has clearly violated the law and should be charged and punished accordingly.

That seems to be the only way that he can be convinced that he is our president, not our dictator. The time is long past that we can continue pretending that what is happening to our nation is just business as usual in Washington.
